P50 Fire Extinguisher Servicing
Certifying a P50 fire extinguisher couldn’t be easier. A simple visual annual inspection is all that is required, making the extinguisher a truly efficient design.
As long as the person certifying a fire extinguisher has been trained, read and understood the instructions on the side of the extinguisher and has access to the company’s fire safety log (Extinguisher Management System), they may carry out the inspection.
Compliance
Within the extinguisher servicing standard BS5306-3:2009 it states that a “competent” person needs to maintain all extinguishers. Therefore, you are able to service your own extinguishers as long as you can show a Fire Safety Inspector that you have a “suitable system of maintenance” and are taking suitable measures to keep your employees and grounds safe from fire. This will be met with the training we will provide to you and your team free of charge, and our bespoke Extinguisher Management System which you will have access to once you have purchased our products.
Visual inspection
Our service contract free fire extinguishers require a simple visual inspection of the body to check for any damage which can be carried out by the owner or a team member. The hose should be visually checked for any blockages or damage. It is also important to remove any dirt or dust build up from the extinguishers body.
Like all extinguishers, there should be regular visual walk-past to ensure the extinguisher is present and pressurised.
Step One
Tamper Tag
Check that the tamper tag is still in place [If not, this may indicate use].
Step Two
Pressure gauge check
Check both needles are in the green area using the magnet at base of extinguisher.
Step Three
Body check
Look and feel for any damage & remove dust/dirt on the body of the extinguisher.
Step Four
Hose check
Check the hose for any blockages and damage.
Step Five
Certification
The result must be recorded on the back of the extinguisher with a marker pen in the designated area and on the Extinguisher Management System provided by Eastern Extinguishers.
